FIFA World Cup 2014 begins on Thursday, June 12 in Brazil but companies such as Tecate have been infected with World Cup “Futbolmania” for months already. Given that this year’s tournament is expected to be the most watched game on mobile devices in the history of the sport, a score of World Cup related apps are emerging just in time for the game.
The latest to join the fray is Heineken USA, whose brands Tecate and Tecate Light are using Augmented Reality to promote a sweepstakes featuring ex-futbolista Cuauhtemoc Blanco and an opportunity to enter to win a trip to Brazil to watch the World Cup in person.
How it works: Text “tecate” to 88500 download the app and then scan the Tecate Eagle. Watch as soccer legend Cuahtemoc Blanco comes to life and delivers sweepstakes entry instructions in a short video message.
