Welcome to the latest post in our “Employee Q&A” series, where we interview an employee to reflect on their career and experience at 3D Cloud™ by Marxent. Part of our success is mainly due to our people. So, we’re excited to feature a hardworking team member to learn about their journey at 3D Cloud.

This week, we spotlight Alex Burge, Technical Project Manager at 3D Cloud. Let’s read on to learn more!

Alex, how did you find out about 3D Cloud?

I’d already worked in retail, then tech, then retail tech. 3D Cloud was a solution to a problem in a previous space, so once I learned more about what 3D Cloud was doing, I wanted to know more. A lot of technology in retail is very disposable, but here was a product that was evolving and developing, with some very big names saying some very good things about it. I liked that!

What is your role in the company? What does it consist of?

As a Technical Project Manager, I work with the client to manage scope, time, and cost to ensure we deliver a quality product. That’s the boring blurb, but I really get to work with a bunch of talented, motivated, and intelligent people to drive 3D Cloud’s product into a better place with our clients, current and future. Day to day, I could be working with C-level executives working with a feature team on a new and exciting feature. It’s varied and engaging, that’s for certain.

Can you give a brief overview of your background?

I came from a predominantly technology-focused background, with a large part of my early career being with Apple Retail. Prior to being with Marxent, I was combining retail and technology in different ways. I’m glad I took all the steps that I have to get here as I enjoy feeding my curiosity and learning.

What is one thing that surprised you about your current role?

Freedom. From the very beginning, I was onboarded to be well settled into the role and have clear expectations of getting to work. Having trust and confidence placed in me early on was incredibly liberating. I was able to have the freedom to challenge decisions and ask questions which helped me to learn a lot in a small space of time. I continue to feel that now, 12 months in.

What do you like most about the work we do at 3D Cloud?

We’re always able to improve, and there’s a desire to make things better amidst the intense work for the wide range of clients we support. Through retrospectives, Q&A, planning, and analysis, we make the product better, our process better, and, as corny as it sounds, ourselves.

How would you describe your direct team culture?

Those intelligent, witty, talented people bring their best to the table and make work interesting. Each individual compliments another. We support each other, challenge each other, learn from each other, and better each other. Brilliant.

If someone wanted to work on your team, what is the one thing they should know about?

Use your unique perspective with a view to improving the product, the process, the people, and yourself. Give feedback and be open to it, everyone works like this daily, and it’s how and why we’re effective.

What piece of advice would you give your younger self?

Someone else asked this of me recently. I have made so many mistakes, and I suppose it would be to learn from them sooner. Take the time to slow down and reflect in order to see how to progress. I spent my late teens and most of my twenties just chasing something whilst ignoring myself falling over, which is not ideal.

Thank you, Alex, for interviewing with me today. We are always impressed with your positive attitude. Thank you for sharing your journey at 3D Cloud.
